There’s a lot happening on Main Street! This month, we’re celebrating the Grand Re-Opening of Buffington Park, sharing our newly expanded downtown district, and looking ahead to Business Connect and our upcoming Grant Writing Workshops. We’re also shining a light on local business and taking a moment to thank the funders and partners whose investment helps make this work possible.

A Park Reopened, A Community Celebrated

What a wonderful turnout for the Grand Re-Opening of Collier H. Buffington Memorial Park! Gold Beach Main Street was proud to partner with the City of Gold Beach to celebrate the completion of this important community space and welcome families back to the park.

Community members gathered for the ribbon cutting, the opening of a 30-year-old time capsule, live music from The Shark Tones, great local food and drinks, yard games, and, most importantly, the chance for kids to finally explore the park's brand-new playground.

Events like this are a great reminder of what can happen when our City, local businesses, organizations, volunteers, and community members come together. We loved seeing the park filled with families, neighbors, and so many happy kids enjoying a space that will serve Gold Beach for years to come.

A huge thank you to the City of Gold Beach, Rogue Credit Union, Gold Beach Lumber, Sunset Family Pizza, Arch Rock Brewing, Casita Loka, One Bag at a Time, Merit Draven, Darryl Cross, and all volunteers who helped make the celebration such a success. We were thrilled to be part of welcoming our community back to Buffington Park!

What’s Ahead

Let’s Get Down to Business

Gold Beach Main Street is launching Business Connect, a new series of free quarterly stakeholder meetings created to strengthen communication, collaboration, and connection with the businesses we serve.

Our first meeting is Tuesday, September 1, from 5:00–6:30 p.m., and we want Gold Beach businesses at the table.

We'll share new GBMS initiatives, connect businesses with regional partners and resources, and talk about what's working, what's missing, and where we can work together to better support our local business community.

And we're not just talking. At this first meeting, we'll begin planning our first districtwide collaborative event, with the goal of creating something we can collectively promote during the slower winter season. We want our businesses to help decide what it becomes. What would bring locals out? What could draw visitors into town? How can we encourage people to shop, eat, stay, and explore throughout our district when our businesses need that traffic most?

Business Connect gives our local businesses a consistent seat at the table and gives all of us an opportunity to turn good ideas into action.

Space is limited to 50 attendees, and pizza is on us! Please register in advance so we can plan for food and seating.

Grant Writing Workshops: Bring a Real Project. Build a Stronger Grant.

This fall, Gold Beach Main Street is bringing grant facilitator Meredith Howell to Gold Beach for both Intermediate and Beginner Grant Writing Workshops serving Curry and Coos counties.

The Intermediate Series is designed for grant writers currently working within nonprofit organizations and governmental entities, while the Beginner Workshop is open to nonprofits, governmental entities, and small businesses with little or no grant writing experience.

For those already working with grants, our four-part Intermediate Series is a chance to do more than taking notes. Bring an actual project your organization needs funded and spend four sessions working directly with Meredith to strengthen your planning, writing, grant administration, and overall approach.

And here's a pretty special part: participants will have time with actual funders during each workshop day. Ask questions, gain insight into the funding process, and better understand what funders are looking for on the other side of an application.

Improving Ellensburg

Gold Beach Main Street’s Downtown District expansion has officially been approved!

Previously, our district extended from Triangle Park at the north end of the Isaac Lee Patterson Bridge to 8th Street. Our newly expanded district now continues north along the U.S. 101 corridor to the Gold Beach Visitor Center and includes two of our community’s major activity hubs: the Port of Gold Beach and the library and city park area.

The goal behind this expansion is simple: to serve more of Gold Beach, together.

As a Main Street organization, our work is rooted in strengthening the economic and community vitality of our downtown district. Expanding our boundaries allows us to support more businesses along our primary commercial corridor, build stronger connections between different areas of town, encourage improvements and beautification, create opportunities for increased foot traffic, and collaborate more broadly on events, promotions, and community initiatives.

Gold Beach does not function as a series of separate destinations. Our businesses, harbor, parks, library, visitor services, and community spaces are all part of the experience of our town. By bringing these areas into one Main Street district, we have a greater opportunity to connect them and work collectively toward a more vibrant, welcoming, and economically resilient Gold Beach.

This expansion is about more than a map. It is about bringing life and vitality to our community by working together to strengthen the places where we live, work, gather, and welcome visitors.

Small Business Spotlight

We’re lucky to have some pretty great downstairs neighbors! The Coffee Dock, now a few months into new ownership, is located on the lower level of the Cannery Building at the Port of Gold Beach, just downstairs from the Gold Beach Main Street office.

Serving coffee drinks, smoothies, ice cream, and more, The Coffee Dock is a great stop for a morning pick-me-up or an afternoon treat. You’ll find them alongside Port Hole Cafe and Fishermen’s Direct, with a friendly crew that we’re always happy to see around the building.

If you haven’t stopped in recently, head downstairs, say hello, and check them out. We love seeing local businesses thrive at the Port and are happy to have The Coffee Dock as part of our neighborhood!
